Coffee. For many of us, the day doesn’t start before it. But coffee shouldn’t be an alarm clock for those still sleeping… that’s why it is worth looking into the quietest Nespresso machine.

We have researched 4 smart options for machines which are compatible with pods from the king of convenient, café-quality coffee.

Manufacturers won’t usually give you the decibel level for Nespresso machines, but the 4 quiet Nespresso machines we picked all have quiet features to consider.

Before we get going…

How loud are Nespresso machines?

Espresso machines such as Nespresso can fall within the 55 to 70 decibel (dB) range. That’s pretty loud!

While they are typically quieter than a smoothie maker or garbage disposal, they are louder than kitchen appliances such as a dishwasher. Here’s a comparison:

ApplianceNoise level
Blender80 dB
Garbage disposal70 dB
Espresso machine65 dB
Microwave55 dB
Dishwasher45 dB

Skip to:

  1. Essenza Mini (Original Line)
  2. De’Longhi VertuoPlus
  3. CitiZ
  4. CASABREWS Espresso Machine

And a final hit of Nespresso machine stats:

#1 – Essenza Mini (Original Line)

N/A

This compact Nespresso machine from the manufacturer’s Original Line has been tested at just 55 dB – seriously quiet, early morning simplicity.

The Essenza Mini (Original Line) has been regularly cited as ‘the quietest Nespresso machine around’. So that’s why it is sitting pretty at the top of our list.

What’s so quiet about it, huh? First of all, in independent testing done by the good people at Tasting Table, this baby averaged out at a 55 dB operational noise. That puts it right down at the lower end of the noise scale. Users agree. Tim B said in his Amazon review: “It is much quieter and vibrates less.”

Its compact size helps dampen vibration, and the simple pump system produces only a low hum rather than the louder whirr of larger machines. This makes it ideal for small apartments or households where early-morning peace matters.

Away from quiet operation, it offers fast heat-up in under 30 seconds, there are two brew sizes (espresso and lungo (a long espresso)), and as we said, a very small profile that fits easily on crowded countertops.

Pros

  • Quiet (55 dB in testing)
  • Fast heat-up
  • Doesn’t take up much space

Cons

  • Water tank has capacity for about 5-6 pods before refilling

Best for: The quietest Nespresso around!

#2 – De’Longhi VertuoPlus

N/A

Quiet and versatile; the VertuoPlus is a bigger and slightly louder machine than the Essenza, but will give you a broader range of drink options.

Make no mistake – because of its motor and ability to provide a range of drinks sizes – the VertuoPlus is, by all accounts, louder than its Essenza cousin. But you can rest assured it is quieter than many other Vertuo machines.

From the VertuoPlus, you can expect a sound that is less annoying than the higher-pitched whirr of some other models in the Vertuo range.

And as well as a lower operational noise than other Nespresso options, you get a range of drink sizes from a single espresso up to a full coffee mug. The VertuoPlus does this effortlessly with its centrifusion barcode reading technology. This gives you blend-specific brewing, because all the machine does is read the barcode on the rim of the pod, before automatically setting brewing parameters – clever!

A good ,quiet Nespresso machine for those who want larger cup sizes. The model we show here comes with an Aeroccino Milk Frother – nice!

Pros

  • Quieter option in the Vertuo range
  • Range of drink options

Cons

  • Slightly higher cost per pod than Original Line

Best for: Quiet and versatile coffee

#3 – CitiZ

N/A

A slick machine for espressos and lungos – among the quietest, and with such style that it’s almost a work of art! This is one to uplift your kitchen decor.

Looks and first impressions… do you think they count?

If they do, note that the CitiZ, like Essenza, is another Original Line model known for its relatively muted performance – and it’s a head turner!

Starting with the quietness bit, the CitiZ produces less rattling and vibration than bulkier designs, delivering espresso with a smoother sound profile. There is no screeching or grinding to be heard.

And if you want quiet without sacrificing style, CitiZ strikes a nice balance. It gives a sleek retro-inspired design – let’s be honest, as Nespresso machines go, it’s almost a work of art. In practical terms, it also brings a larger water tank to the table (or your countertop)  than the Essenza.

It offers espresso and lungo options. Oh, and this model we’ve shown you comes with a frother.

Pros

  • Quiet with noise-reducing components
  • Stylish and sleek look
  • Large capacity

Cons

  • Not a budget option

Best for: Quietness and style combined

#4 – CASABREWS Espresso Machine

N/A

A budget option that offers a choice of 4 drinks sizes. Decent capacity, and it certainly isn’t the loudest.

If your budgetary sweet spot is under $100, read on. CASABREWS offers this unofficial espresso machine that takes Nespresso pods.

It is reported as in the quiet category, with users’ only reports of loudness coming on start-up. This is not a whisper-quiet machine, but it is tolerable, with a compact design made from durable stainless steel that does not encourage vibration.

There is also a decent amount of versatility – you’ll get 4 custom brew sizes; choose from Ristretto, espresso, lungo or Americano.

And there’s the size… it isn’t wide (3.9 inches), so it won’t take up much countertop space. But then it has a water tank capacity that will cover you for 12 cups, and an 8 capsule container space – best of both worlds?

Pros

  • Not a loud machine
  • 4 custom brew sizes
  • Excellent value

Cons

  • A report of fluctuating pressure during extraction

Best for: Budget buy that won’t burst your eardrums
